Ask-A-Lawyer Programs


Volunteer attorneys are needed to staff a range of Ask-A-Lawyer programs which provide free brief consultations to unrepresented individuals who have questions about a legal matter.

Family Law Ask-A-Lawyer Program

When: Every Thursday from 2:00 pm – 5:00 pm and Fourth Tuesdays from 9:00 am – 11:00 am
Where: Outside of Courtroom 8 (Thursdays) & Family Law Self-Help Center (Tuesdays) at Family Court, 601 N. Pecos Road
Volunteer attorneys are needed to provide brief consultations to pro se family court litigants in the areas of divorce, custody, guardianship, adoption & name change.

Landlord/Tenant Ask-A-Lawyer Program

When: Every Wednesday from 10:00 am – 12:00 pm and 1:00 pm – 3:00 pm
Where: Civil Law Self-Help Center, Regional Justice Center, 200 Lewis Ave.
Volunteer attorneys are needed to provide brief consultations to unrepresented litigants with landlord/tenant issues.

Small Claims Ask-A-Lawyer Program

When: First and Third Tuesdays from 10:00 am – 12:00 pm and 1:00 pm – 3:00 pm
Where: Civil Law Self-Help Center, Regional Justice Center, 200 Lewis Ave.
Volunteer attorneys are needed to provide brief consultations to unrepresented litigants seeking advice regarding small claims issues.

Veterans Ask-A-Lawyer Program

When: Second Fridays from 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm
Where: VA Community Resource and Referral Center (CCRC), 916 West Owens Avenue
Volunteer attorneys are needed to provide brief consultations to veterans in all areas of law. The type of advice given varies greatly and can involve matters, such as VA benefits, outstanding criminal warrants, lost IDs, child support issues and much more. Volunteers have resource materials at their disposal.

Probate Ask-A-Lawyer Program

When: Second Tuesdays from 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm
Where: Civil Law Self-Help Center, Regional Justice Center, 200 Lewis Ave.
Volunteer attorneys are needed to provide brief consultations to unrepresented litigants seeking advice regarding probate issues.

Federal Court Ask-A-Lawyer Program

When: Quarterly programs from 2:00 pm – 5:00 pm — View the 2016 schedule
Where: Lloyd George United States Courthouse, Jury Assembly Room, 333 Las Vegas Blvd. South
Volunteer attorneys are needed to provide brief consultations to unrepresented individuals with open cases in Federal Court or those contemplating filing in Federal Court.

Homeless Assistance Project (Las Vegas & Henderson)

When: Quarterly events from 5:30 pm – 7:30 pm (Las Vegas) and 4:30 pm – 6:30 pm (Henderson) — View the 2016 Schedule
Where: Las Vegas Rescue Mission, 480 W. Bonanza Road or St. Timothy’s Church in Henderson, 43 West Pacific Ave.
In conjunction with UNLV’s Public Interest Law Association (PILA), Friends in the Desert and Las Vegas Rescue Mission, volunteer attorneys are needed to provide brief consultations to homeless individuals accessing services at various sites in the community. The type of advice given varies greatly and can involve matters, such as Social Security benefits, outstanding criminal warrants, lost IDs, child support issues and much more. Volunteers have internet access and resource materials at their disposal.

Small Business Project Ask-A-Lawyer Program

When: Bimonthly events held from 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm — View the 2016 schedule
Where: West Charleston Library, 6301 W. Charleston Blvd.
Volunteer attorneys are needed to teach seminars on topics of interest to small business owners and those seeking to start their own small business. Volunteers are also needed to provide brief consultations to individuals who have questions related to their business and the night’s topic.

Pro Bono Celebration Week Ask-A-Lawyer

When: Annual Event in October
Where: East Las Vegas Community Senior Center, 250 N. Eastern Ave.
Volunteer attorneys are needed to provide brief consultations to individuals in all areas of civil law, including family, consumer, bankruptcy, foreclosure, immigration, probate and more. This event is held as part of National Pro Bono Celebration Week, an effort to raise awareness about the increasing need for pro bono legal services and to showcase the difference that pro bono lawyers make in our community.
